Among the emerging materials, metal-organic framework (MOF)-based materials, including pristine MOFs, MOF composites, and MOF derivatives, have drawn tremendous attention due to their remarkable superiority over conventional materials for energy conversion and storage applications. 3
This updated review provides an overview of the advances in MOF-based materials in energy storage and conversion applications, including gas storage, batteries, supercapacitors, and photo/electrochemical energy conversion, highlighting the advantages of different materials in various scenarios.
These derivatives, collectively termed MOF-derived materials, cover a wide range of chemical compositions, including various carbons, metals/oxides/hydroxides and many other functional materials, and their nanocomposites (12 – 14, 18). Many of these materials have been known to be active for electrochemical applications.
Therefore, we believe that MOF-based materials, through the mutual promotion of rational design, structural regulation, and theoretical exploration, will present a bright prospect for energy storage and conversion applications.
There is still a long way to go before MOF-based materials achieve real practical applications in energy storage and conversion. With continuous research efforts, MOF-based materials have achieved so far immense advances in structural design and their applications, which are truly inspiring.
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have unique properties that can be leveraged for energy storage devices. a) In metal-ion batteries, MOFs rely on host–guest interactions to store ions and can improve charge conduction by installing electron reservoirs, increasing deliverable capacity. b) In lithium-sulfur batteries, MOFs use host–guest interactions to store lithium and sulfide ions.
In this mini overview, MOF-boosted filtration membrane technology is critically looked into and the current state-of-the-art is discussed. We focus on the membrane filtration technology promoted by MOFs for water treatment, with particular emphasis on the permeability-selectivity trade-off and membrane fouling. In this connection, the ...

However, MOF materials are often obtained as loose powders with low packing densities and low thermal conductivities. Therefore, to facilitate this transition and enable the MOF materials to form part of a practical hydrogen storage system, knowledge of the ''processing'' techniques to improve the properties of the powders is essential.

Researchers treated a MOF, known as Fe-BTC, with dopamine, which polymerized to polydopamine (PDA) pinning the polymer inside the MOF. The final composite, named Fe-BTC/PDA, can quickly and selectively remove high amounts of heavy metals like lead and mercury from water samples. In fact, it can remove over 1.6 times its own weight of mercury ...
